Water & Sanitation

Squares7In Cambodia water gathering typically takes place during the wet season (July to December) when rain is harvested in large cauldrons before being boiled and turned into drinking water. This source of water rarely lasts into the dry season (January to June) which forces families to walk long distances in order to find water from rivers or ponds. A family can typically walk for several kilometers without finding water, and the sources that they do find are not safe.

CHO has partnered with Active Water and other organisations to establish The W.A.S.H Project (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene.) Together, they  provide safe water for communities through the building of wells, ponds and toilets for domestic use. The hope of this project is that sickness from water born diseases will be reduced as families understand the importance of clean water and sanitation.
